Event Reports

It is important for the class profile that we regularly and promptly send out reports of Osprey Class Open Meetings and other sailing events in which Osprey owners compete.

The order for report writing of an Osprey Class Open Meeting or a mixed classes regatta is:

Highest placed Osprey Class committee member writes the report
Whoever is third overall in the Osprey Class writes the report
If less than 3 Ospreys participating in the event then the last placed Osprey crew to write the report.
Reports are always welcome from others as well, it gives an additional perspective of the racing.

The report to be submitted preferably with a photograph or two of the sailing & the results by the Tuesday after the event. That gives a chance of the report being used by Yachts & Yachting magazine as well as https://www.yachtsandyachting.com. The guidelines for how it is done are at https://www.yachtsandyachting.com/…/Guidelines-for-submitti…

You should also copy the report, photographs & results to Huw, and do some blogs on Facebook. Be sure to ask at the host club to find out if photos are available. If not, Angela Mamwell often has photos. Taking a photograph of the results sheet on your phone and posting it on Facebook during the weekend is also good - please check it is a readable image before posting. Facebook is good for internal communication within the class, but we need https://www.yachtsandyachting.com/ and our website for external comm, in the hope of attracting new people to the class.

2020 Nationals CANCELLED

08:00 BST Friday 4th September 2020

The Osprey Class Treasurer will be in contact, very soon, with all who had entered and paid the entry fee for the 2020 National Championship, regarding refund of said entry fee.

12:20 BST on Monday 24th August 2020

Recently received via email.
Last night the committee met to discuss the questionnaire feedback from the signed up competitors. The response was good and a clear mandate was received which has unfortunately led to the decision to cancel the Osprey 2020 Nationals.

POSSIBLE One Day Open - Weymouth SC

There has been some effort going on in the background to try and provide an opportunity for Ospreys to meet up and race together under the Covid glare. We are pleased to report that we now have a confirmed date:

  • Saturday October 10th at Weymouth Sailing Club, Dorset
  • 3 Races back to back in Weymouth Bay of approx 1 hour each

We are looking for support for this event. 1 day has been chosen as it limits the social gathering side of things and allows people to travel to and from in that day if required.

For those that would prefer to stay for the weekend there will be club racing at Castle Cove Sailing Club on the Sunday morning with the first race starting at 10:30am, 2 races back to back and an Osprey start if enough boats arrive. The plan would be for boats to sail around from Weymouth into Portland Harbour for the racing.

At this stage we want to see what appetite there is for this.

Saturday 22nd August

End of Season Final Fling at Carsington SC scheduled for 10th & 11th October has been cancelled.

Class Boat Ready for Use

Osprey 1360 powering upwind during a windy 2020 Bloody Mary

The class boat is now ready to be loaned out.

We need to look to the future of the class and the new blood that can be welcomed into the Osprey family. The details (application form and loan agreement form) on how to acquire the boat for a defined period are now available. The forms can be filled in electronically, but with Google Chrome browser when you save a completed form it does not save the information you have entered. This is not much good. So on Microsoft Windows systems, download document and open with either Adobe Acrobat Reader or Microsoft Edge browser.

The Osprey Class Committee are actively looking for  the first crew to take her on and join us. If you know of a suitable crew then get in touch with your committee members or local Osprey representatives.
